His & Her VD Cocktail Recipes

Valentine's Day is one of several silly little "holidays", in my opinion. However, because it's on a shelf near you the day after Christmas, it's hard to ignore. I don't need any flowers, I buy them all the time already, to know that Mike loves me. I don't need diamonds from Mike - that's just a completely unnecessary item for such a delusional "holiday", plus I would wonder if he did something wrong to get me such an extravagant gift of a diamond. Even though I've told Mike several times how I feel about the day and that he doesn't need to get me anything, and even from another country, he still does. The last thing I expect though, is something from him.  He shows me how he loves me everyday by providing for us. By giving us everything and doing so much. Everyday is the day of love with him.
As much as I dismiss the VD "holiday", today on MN i'm getting in the Valentines Day spirit for you, and you only. I've used VD as an opportunity to be creative, and create some content to share with you all. And what better content than a his & her fun, festive VD cocktail recipe (even though it's not really considered a cocktail unless there's bitters in it. Correct me if i'm wrong). I have tried them both, obviously I wouldn't want to have you try something terrible. Both drinks are very good, and effective. These VD themed drinks are perfect for your next Galentine's Day event too, because i've even named them for you.
Anytime i'm trying to come up with a drink for the guys, I always think of a martini, because of James Bond. A martini is just a manly drink, right? It's basically straight up vodka or gin...that's manly. Don't get me wrong, once in a blue moon, I love me a good martini too. If we are going out for martinis, there's only a couple places around The Woodlands i'll drink a martini at. It's kind of like if you only drink margaritas at certain places.

For the his VD cocktail i'm calling it a Kissed by an Angel, because every man with a valentine will mostly likely be kissed by their angel that night. It pretty much taste just like a chocolate covered strawberry. A really sweet man will call an Uber, or be fancy and get a limo, if they want more than one of these martinis.
Kissed by an Angel

2 1/2 oz Strawberry Vodka
1/2 oz Creme de Cocoa
garnish with maraschino cherries

Ladies, the Hugs & Kisses is sweet and the perfect amount of tart. It's quite refreshing and delicious, and will go down very easy. I topped these fun cocktails off with a garnish of a chocolate covered strawberry. Don't look too close because I did a terrible job on my CC strawberries. If i'm going to be honest, I hurried up and melted a couple pieces of 100% cocoa. I needed them for the aesthetics only. And then they sat in the fridge for a day or two, the chocolate got nice and hard, so that when I did go to snap photos large pieces crumbled off. Oh, blogger problems. Needless to say, this particular garnish for the Hugs & Kisses is perfect because your basically getting a taste of what his cocktail taste like. Not to mention, it's just a fun and darling garnish in general.
Hugs & Kisses

3 oz *H-E-B Central Market Organic Italian Soda Pomegranate
3 oz Strawberry vodka
Ice
garnish with chocolate covered strawberry. *substitute for pomegranate juice plus club soda/carbonated water.

I don't have a recipe for the chocolate covered strawberries and i'm sure there are an abundance of recipes to be found out there. However, I did want to give a little tip that helped when you go to add the CC strawberry garnish. Before you dip the strawberries in the chocolate, with a knife, slice the strawberry down the middle until midway.  Dip strawberry in chocolate. TIP: After dipping strawberry in chocolate, place toothpick in the slice so the chocolate doesn't cover the slice up. Lay on wax paper.

Drink responsibly and call a cab. Happy VD love birds, hope you enjoy these festive drink recipes on the day of love. Cheers to being with someone where everyday feels like Valentines Day. Let me know if you try one, or both, and which recipe was your favorite...
Much Love,

A Productive Morning & Proud Accomplishment

I've had a rather busy day already and it's only 10:18 am. I got up this morning, still motivated from last night's idea, to go and take pictures at Market St before all the shops opened. After that I went to H-E-B, on my way back home, to get the rest of the ingredients I need to make a His & Her VD cocktail.
I mentioned a while ago that I was taking a different direction with MN blog, and had decided to do less post on outfits. Unless of course, they pertain to our outdoor lifestyle. However, today was simply me practicing working with my tripod and using the Canon camera app on my phone. Not that you would know this but, since before Christmas I have been taking all photos I post, myself. Dillan, my stepson, got me a tripod for Christmas. The tripod then became my official photographer. And just like that, I figured out a way to take photos without inconveniencing or having to ask someone else. Now I am practicing the art of tripod, solo photography. Mostly everything I've taken with my tripod since I got it, is me playing around with it.

I know there are a lot of bloggers who have to plan out in advance what they post everyday on their blog, and don't get me wrong I try to do that as well, but sometimes I find that getting something ready same day, last minute can turn out alright. Not that today's post is the greatest content, but with that being said, there is a message behind it. I overcame one of the major let downs and constant set backs, for me as a blogger. That was me not being able to produce because I never had a photographer. Hiring a professional all the time would be so great and awesome, but that's not in my budget. And even if it was in my budget, I still don't think I would hire one for every styled shoot I wanted to do. Plus, Mike got me a nice camera for my birthday last year and I want to take full advantage of having it. I say all you need is a good camera/lens, and a tripod. If I can do it, you can do it. All you have to do is practice, and keep practicing.
So, same day post, let's say published before 11 am, and my first "outfit" shoot with my tripod as my photographer. How did I do? When you set your mind to it, oh what you can achieve...
As if my day hasn't already felt busy enough, and because i'm enjoying the productiveness, i'm going to go for a walk and test my theory on a margarita (you'll understand what I mean by this soon, so stay tuned), and then come home and work on some VD festive drink recipes...!

Spill the Bag

Truth: I don't carry a bag/purse/clutch 90% of the time. Fact: I'm most likely to carry a small tote bag, clutch, or wristlet before I carry a big ol' gigantic purse. I love a good bag, and I once was one those people who carried over-sized purses. However, there's nothing that hacks me off quicker than not being able to find what I need in my bag. I don't know how many times not being able to find something in my purse turned into me dumping all it's contents on the ground. That's right about when I would get pissed. So, seeing as that's not really worth getting upset over, I stopped carrying large purses. In the past, I also was known to leave purses. Not necessarily leave them, but forget them and have to run back and retrieve them. When you get in the habit of not carrying a purse at all and then one night you carry one, you most likely will forget it.

With all that being said, I'm spilling my bag today on MN. These are the things that almost permanently remain in my purse. Most of these things would also be the items that traveled with me on my carry on bag/personal bag. Not being used to carrying a bag, one would think when I do carry one it would be loaded down. You will be surprised to know that I keep it pretty light and simple. I've learned to not be in need of much, when away from home. Nothing wrong with practicing a little minimalism, right? Here's whats in my bag...

I've spoiled my eyes and wear only polarized sunglasses. My ray-ban aviators are the only polarized sunglasses I have at the moment. I love aviator style sunglasses for my particular face shape, so one or the other is always with me. I always bring both when we travel because, well, I need options!

I am not a big fan of your typical hand sanitizer. I feel like my hands are dirtier than before I used the gel hand sani. Neal's Yard Remedies makes a spray that is essential oil based. And it smells amazing. I keep this in my purse to spray on both hands after I get gas or touch money. I don't ever wear lip glosses. I prefer a matte lipstick if I do wear anything. I hated in the past when I would wear lip gloss and my hair would get stuck on my lips, so I gave it up a loooonngg time ago. 9 out 10 times I wear Aquaphor only. They come in a package of two tubes, one stays on my nightstand and the other is either in my car or purse.

Business cards are a must. And I happen to be terrible at keeping some with me, but I always try too. Travel size perfumes are the best to keep in a purse. You never know when you want to feel beautiful and smell good. I have a lot of hair, so when I wear it down I always make sure I have an extra hair clip or hair tie.

Ok, it's your turn to spill the bag. What are some things that stay in your purse?

Mon-daze

I had this really grand idea last night that I would wake up with Mike and get ready with him to go blog from some neat place around town this morning. Well the rain, and all the tornado warnings, had other plans. Such a bummer. I had so much Monday motivation until I turned on the tv and the news was on. The local meteorologists have shut down all motivation I had this morning and last night. The funny thing is, it's not even raining anymore...however, they say, there's more coming and new "tornado warnings" have popped up.
Those meteorologists didn't scratch my itch to blog though, I don't have any current content but I thought since I have been flipping through photos of our London trip last year, I would share a some with you. If you follow me on instagram, then you have already seen a few photos. If posting old travel photos isn't proof enough that i'm dying to go somewhere, then I don't know what is!
I had my mind on Sunday roast in London all day yesterday. We learned while we were there (on a Sunday, obviously) that Sunday roast are the equivalent to a Saturday/Sunday brunch here in the states. Anytime Mike and I think about making a roast now, we always like to do it on a Sunday, to take us back to the amazing time we had at a Sunday brunch in London with our sweet friends. Sunday roast are a pretty big deal in London, so you can probably go just about anywhere on a Sunday and enjoy a roast. We went to The Grazing Goat, and enjoyed the savor of every last bite.

I had a flat white at least once a day, a lot of times twice a day, the entire trip. Mostly from a place I found right around the corner from where our friends house is, where we stayed. It was called Tierra Verde. Even the last day before the uber driver picked us up to go to the airport, I went to my favorite place to get one last proper flat white. I also tried this french bakery, Aux Merveilleux de Fred, and had the most incredible croissant in my entire life. Nothing can beat it now. I can't believe I had waited until the last day to try it, when I could have been indulging every day! Just as I would go back to Trinidad in a heartbeat just for the roti, I would go back to London in a heartbeat for a flat white and croissants. I would actually go back for much more than that.

We were adventurous and took two day trips while Mike had time off. One day went to Cambridge and another day we went to the coast and visited Dover. The castle was unfortunately closed. I'm fascinated with castles and was super excited but it was our fault because we should have looked into before we set off a planned to go to a castle. It was still beautiful and such a memorable trip with my love. This would be another reason I would love to return to the U.K. Cambridge was the most surreal university town. Mike and I were thrilled we went and got to attend the choral evensong service at the Kings College Chapel.

It's so crazy to look back to when I first started this blogging journey. It was during my time in the UK when I decided to start blogging full time. And I think I made a post everyday. How much I've learned and grown since then is insane to think about. I must apologize for the quality of the photos. They were taken pre-canon camera days. However, I love them just the same as a good quality photo, because they take me back to some good times. So blessed and thankful to experience so many adventures with Mike. And looking forward to the many adventures ahead.  The weather is still crummy, so I hope your day is filled with more rays than mine. Until next time...
Cheers,

That Friday Aura

There's always a good aura on Friday mornings. Be it that that aura only last a few minutes or sometimes the whole day, it's the thrill of the weekend ahead. After Mike left this morning I plopped down on the couch to drink some coffee and got to thinking about my house. Wondering when it will actually be complete. What do I want to do or still want to do around here? And, overall, pleased with what direction i'm taking with what decorating I have done thus far.
Thinking about the house reminded me....I know I said I would be sharing my kitchen cabinet project, which I still am, I just haven't been inspired in the way that I would like to, to get the kitchen photo ready. Plus, we've had more overcast days lately than not, and natural light is a must. I'm obviously thinking about it now though because i'm sitting here writing about it. I'll be sure and  try to stay focused so I can share all the hard work I did on the kitchen cabinets with you.
It's been so dreary in the mornings the last few days. That kind of sets the tone for me for how the rest of the day will be for me. Even though it's Friday and I'm super pumped, for no specific reason whatsoever, I don't want to leave the house at all today. I hope that sun comes out quick because it's looking like a lazy day around the house! Any fun plans this weekend? I promise i'll get to working on some content for my kitchen cabinets.

Happy Weekend,
