Memorial Day

Today on Modishly Naturopathic Blog I am commemorating the fallen who fought for our country and our freedom, and I am celebrating their lives. I pray for the men and women, and their families, who are presently serving our country. Because of your commitment to this country I live my life sound and free. Thank you for your honor, your bravery and sacrifice for your country. You will always be remembered for what you did for us. Truly I say this, I will never find the words to express how grateful and honored I am. May God forever be in your hearts and bless the United States of America.

We all know someone who we have lost at war. Join with me at 5 pm today and lets all crack open an ice cold beer in celebration for the men and women who you know or who's lives where lost fighting for us! Who are you celebrating and drinking a beer for today?

Five Ways to Use Essential Oils You Never Think Of

If you love using essential oils, than you will love today's post. I'm sharing five ways you can use essential oils that you never think of. Essential oils are becoming more and more popular these days, and while I have been using them for over a decade, I never get tired of utilizing essential oils. I wanted to get creative and find a way to use my EO's for something other than in a hot aromatherapy bath or with massage oil. So, I  made my own 'trap a crap or poo-pourri' spray. I'm simply calling it toilet spray though. I made a fake label for fun to put on the blue glass spray bottle. That's another thing I never get tired of, the beautiful blue glass bottle. You can find them at H.E.B. or The Health Market. Grab your essential oils and get started, make your own toilet spray or try it in the next load of laundry! What are some different ways you use your essential oils? Do you have a favorite blend you make?

5 Ways to use Essential Oils You Never Think of:

1. Laundry Detergent - We have to use the free and clear of everything, natural detergent due to sensitive skin. If you use it, then you know, it's clear and odorless. I put 4-5 drops of Lavender EO in a cap full of laundry detergent, stir it around and pour it in the washing machine. It's smells great, and is perfect when washing guest linens and towels!

2. Home Decor - I have a vase, that was once full, of dried lavender. It had a fancy scooper in there, it's only purpose was for decoration and looks. At the old house it was on my entry, foyer table. I kind of made my own potpourri piece out of it by dropping about 10-15 drops of Lavender EO in it and mixing it up. When you walk by you can take a sniff and get instant aromatherapy!

3. Kitchen - Lavender (I know, I know, all of my uses have been with Lavender. You can use whatever EO you prefer for 1,2-5. But you will need Lavender in the kitchen.) is great for burns. There's plenty of scientific studies and articles you can research about the healing properties of Lavender. Quite especially for minor burns. I did this along time ago and can totally confirm, but applying Lavender as soon as you get that nasty burn will help with the pain and the healing process. So it's a good idea to keep and extra bottle in the kitchen!

4. Deodorant - This may not be appealing to some people, but I had gotten a rash under my arms from the natural stone crystal deodorant. I had to let it heal so I would put a couple drops of Lavender in a tiny scoop of coconut oil, rub it together in the palm of my hands and rub it under my arms and use that as my deodorant. Yes, again with the Lavender EO. I specifically used lavender in this case for the calming effect and to help the healing of the rash. Can't say it will work for you, but I no longer have a rash!

5. Toilet Spray - Take a 4 oz glass bottle, fill with water from the bottom to right under where the neck of the bottle starts. With a dropper (eye dropper will work), add about 1 1/2 dropper full of grapeseed oil. Drop about 15-20 drops of Bergamot EO, and 5-7 drops of Patchouli EO. Screw on spray top, shake well and go spray 3-4 sprays in your toilet water!

Makeshift Bar + 2 Summer Drink Recipes

Even though we have a lovely designated bar, its always fun to put together a makeshift bar. With summer coming up many of us have tons planned. Between weddings, birthdays, and social gatherings, life can get a little crazy. When hosting, making little side bars, especially for specialty drinks/cocktails, is a great way to keep neat and tidy. It also helps to avoid a small space from getting crammed with too many guest at one time, you can set makeshift bars up anywhere. Also, during such a busy season, its easy to run out of time and ideas for any parties/events your hosting. So today i'm sharing 2 Summer cocktail  recipes. I kept it super easy by using most of the same ingredients for both recipes. Are you ready for summer yet? I have the fever for sure. I have some fun and exciting things planned so come back to find out what I am up to and  for more summer ideas and recipes. What are you most excited about for Summer 2016?
Orange, Orange Blossom & Rose Martini:
2 1/2 oz.  Gin/Vodka
2 oz. Orange, Orange Blossom & Rose Organic Italian Soda
Stir over ice, strain in  martini glass
Orange, Orange Blossom & Rose Tropical Cocktail:
2 oz. Vodka, Gin, or White Rum
3 oz. Orange, Orange Blossom & Rose Organic Italian Soda
Fill with La Croix Coconut Flavored Carbonated Water
Pour into glass with ice
Good luck and enjoy!
I forgot to mention, you may have a hard time re-creating these recipes if you don't live in Texas. I use H.E.B. 's Central Market brand organic Italian soda, Orange, Orange Blossom & Rose flavor (similar here). I'm unsure of any other states H.E.B is in. Cheers!

Coco Chanel Quotes

Today's post is very parallel to yesterday's. Think of it as a follow up. I wanted to share a little secret I did yesterday while at Hobby Lobby. I was there browsing the clearance isle looking for accessories and inspiration for Cristen's bedroom. In her room and her closet she has plenty of wall space that I plan on filling with the two picture frames from yesterdays post and maybe one from today's post. So here's the secret, you can find discounted picture frames, buy a few special pieces of paper, a couple $1 fonts from Little Big Crafter and you can make any type of framed wall art you want. And guess what? You can make it for under $10. Today's  black framed Coco Chanel quotes was about $9.40 to make. The original framed artwork I bought on clearance was $21.99! You can make it for less than half and it's custom made by you. What are some great things you find on clearance?

3 Fonts You Need Now

Hey y'all! Summer break is around the corner, if it's not already here for you, and I am sure that means you will be keeping busy with DIY projects and kid friendly activities. There are lots of fun things you can do with fonts these days and so many you can own. Today I am highlighting 3 fun fonts that I think everyone should have. They are great for any summer projects you have in store for yourself or your kiddos. The really awesome thing about these fonts is that they are very inexpensive. These fonts are great for using in framed artwork, place/name cards, or even as a letterhead on some nice cardstock paper. You can get all 3 fonts here or click on 'Little Big Crafter' under the Affiliates section on the right hand side of the blog. What are some things you use fancy, fun fonts for? You can find the names of these 3 fonts at the bottom of the post. So what are you waiting for, go check them out now!

A Summer Country Table Setting Vibe

Hello Friends! Another crazy week. My precious man is getting ready to leave me and head to France for 5 weeks! Such a long time to be away from the love of your life. I'm very sad but yet so excited for this opportunity for him. My goal is to spend those 5 weeks blogging, but that's just a goal, that I will try to accomplish. Today I am sharing with you an easy summer, country chic table setting. I have no intentions on throwing a big gathering anytime soon to enjoy this cute set up, but it certainly was fun putting it together. And I am looking forward to doing post in the future on more table settings. I wanted to do so much more but I figured I would keep it simple, light and fresh. I just recently started collecting the blue willow china. I believe that's what they call it. Blue and white china works to, ha! I love the look of mixing different blue willow patterns. That also makes it very easy to collect. You can practically find a blue willow china set at any home store, estate sale, antique store/flea market etc. Clearly its timeless and classic. What kind of china sets do you collect? Do you enjoy pretty table setting like me?
