Fancy Friday: Hermes-esque dress

It's Friday! And it's time for another Fancy Friday series. I haven't had the opportunity to wear this dress yet but figured I would go ahead and share it with you. The holidays are coming up, which means lots of parties will be going on. I got this dress on super sale for $20 at Em&Lee in Market Street - The Woodlands. It can definitely pass for a holiday dress for any upcoming festivities, because how can you go wrong with black and white combo? I'm calling it my Hermes-esque dress because it looks (and feels) very similar to an Hermes dress. It can be worn with a cardigan, poncho, blazer or any jacket. Throw on some strappy black heels and your all set. I'm looking forward to wearing it because it's also quite comfortable. So, if your looking for some holiday outfits, look no further, pop into Em&Lee/Willa Boutique store and check out the sale rack. You might just get lucky. And don't forget to bring your Willa reusable bag with you for $5 off your total purchase.
We are headed out of town on another camping adventure. This time we will practically be down the street in Huntsville. Some neighbors/friends, and us are taking the kiddos to General Sam's for their Halloween Haunted trails. This will be our first time to camp and ride the side by side at General Sam's and we are looking forward to experiencing their fun filled weekend on some haunted trails. Any Halloween plans for you? Are you dressing up? If so, what/who are you going to be? Happy Friday and Happy Halloween guys!

What Does Modishly Naturopathic Mean You Ask?

I get asked by the majority of people what the name Modishly Naturopathic means. There have only been a handful of people who actually did know the meaning. Once upon of time I would second guess myself and ask myself if I chose the right name for my blog. I know it's a mouthful for some, but honestly Modishly Naturopathic is very fitting for who I am as a person. I feel like it describes me rather accurately. I created MN in 2014, and finally settled on the name after scribbling down several other options. Other options that were either taken as usernames or even magazine titles, or options that just didn't feel like a long term fit for me. Modishly is an adverb and comes from the word Modish. I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, it's of British origin. From my understanding, when I created my blog, the word meant that someone was stylish, chic and/or on trend. Websters dictionary definition of Modish says :fashionable or stylish in a modern way. I have always considered my attire to be stylish and fashionable. I'm not a die hard fashion fanatic, but I love and appreciate a good design and style of garment.
Naturopathic is an adjective of the noun naturopathy or naturopath. A naturopath, again this was my understanding of the meaning when I created MN, is someone who practices holistic medicine and turns to herbs, minerals, vitamins, diet, and other natural approaches for healing. Websters dictionary definition says naturopathy is :the treatment of illness by using diet, herbs, excercise , etc. without using standard drugs or surgery. However, in my opinion, there's so much more to naturopathy than the Websters definition describes. My first job when I was 15 was at The Health Market in The Woodlands, Texas. I worked there for 3 1/2 years and loved every moment. I quickly took a liking to the holistic, natural methods of curing the body, mind and soul. I was absolutely thrilled that I could go to work everyday and learn something new about the body and ways to naturally heal and maintain it. What surprised me the most was I actually retained the information I was learning, which is why i'll always have a life long love for the naturopathic lifestyle. I still to this day turn to naturopathy before considering western medicine. Blessed by the good Lord, I haven't really been too sick to need western medicine as a primary option. Don't get me wrong, I've had a couple very minor surgeries, but only because it was the only option. As I entered into my adult life, several times, I have looked into getting my Doctrine of Naturopath, but I haven't ever committed as it does take about 2-3 years. It's still on my list day.
You learned a little bit more about me today. Now that I've clarified the meaning behind MN blog, hopefully you have a better understanding of why I gave my blog such a scary, long, difficult name. I find the name to be unique, and original. And, most importantly, authentic to who I am. Do you have a business or a blog? What made you choose the name you did for your business/blog?

Top/Bodysuit: Forever 21 similar |  Jeans: American Eagle old , similar | Jacket: Sooo old. This was a gift from Mike for our first Christmas together 5 years ago. The store in the mall was a boutique type store that is no longer there, nor do I remember the name of it. The label on the jacket is Naked Zebra.

P.S. Sorry for the blurry photos. After I got home and got my photos downloaded I realized all my photos were no bueno. I did my best to sharpen and edit. Sorry guys :(

Barnwell Mountain

No Peeps of the Week this week due to an eventful weekend. I'm still trying to play catch up. I feel like as the holidays are approaching I am getting busier and busier. Finding the time to do everything I want to do is challenging. We had a great time this past weekend in Gilmer, Texas at Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area. We went with some good friends and neighbors, who also have a camper and side by side. Y'all, the red dirt though. It was everywhere. I think I still have red dirt in my nose and ears. Even though it was dirty, I would still go back. It was a great place to ride the side by side, and we didn't cover the whole area, so there's more to explore. It's always nice to get back home after trips but reality sets in and reminds you of all the things that need to be done. There are a couple projects that I am determined to tackle. Yesterday I finally went and bought paint for the front door. I can't wait to get started and share with everyone. I also FINALLY, picked out colors for the kitchen cabinets. Which will be the next painting project, after the door. Today I am going to share just a few photos of Barnwell Mountain. I didn't get too crazy with taking photos. It was very hilly when we were riding so it wasn't convenient to get  in and out and snap photos. Plus, that red dirt, I didn't want a bunch of it in my camera lens! Tomorrow on MN i'll be talking about the meaning of Modishly Naturopathic and why I chose that for the name of my blog. Also, I'm planning a holiday party and need some ideas for food and drinks. Drop a comment below if you have any festive party ideas. Until next time....

5 Things You May Not Know About Me

People constantly ask me what my blog is about, so I thought today would be a good day to open up about me, and MN blog. I'm going to get a little personal on the blog today and share 5 things you may not know about me. When I really started blogging I just kind of threw myself in it as fast as I could, like a hamster jumping onto a spinning hamster wheel.  I definitely had no clue what I was doing, and I wasn't going in the same direction on the blog when I first started, that i'm going in now. I had never been on any social media channels prior to blogging, and it's only been about 7-8 months since I started focusing, solely, on MN blog. I'm still learning the ropes to every aspect of being a full time blogger and how social media works, at the same time. One thing I do know now for sure, the challenges I face everyday no longer scare me anymore. I've accepted that it takes time and that being open to growth can be a good thing. My main goal for my personal blog is, that it's an authentic reflection of myself, my style, my taste, my home, my life...With that being said, I find it very important to follow and engage with fellow bloggers. I, personally, feed off of  other bloggers almost everyday. I literally can be inspired by the littlest thing I see, from the color of a pair of pants, the background in a photo, or even a candle...Though there may be so many similar blogs today, we are all so different. Each blog is unique to that individual. Without each other though, I don't think we would be as creative, as individuals. I am so glad I got the guts to actually enter into the realm of blogging (two years after I created MN). Man is it a hard hustle though. However, as long as I keep looking forward, i'm down to call myself a blogger. Whoever says blogging is easy needs to be punched in the face. Just kidding, that's Mike rubbing off on me. I don't promote violence unless it's self defense. Your already learning so much about me and I haven't even told you the 5 things you may not know about me! So let's get to it shall we....
5 Things You May Not Know About Me:
1. I'm engaged to be engaged, to be married, to Mike Perera. He is 11 years older than me, but still a spring chicken in my eyes.We have been together for over 5 years. Mike is from South Louisiana and he has two sons and a daughter. So yes, I am a stepmom, and we are grandparents. I think I want be called, 'GlamMaw'. He's the best thing that ever happened to me, i'm totally obsessed with him and he is so stuck with me. Love you baby!
2. I am biracial. My mother is Caucasian and my father is African American.
3. I was a dental assistant for 8 1/2 years before blogging "full time".
4. I don't like wearing makeup and I don't like styling my hair. I feel like I look like a clown when I wear make up. However, i'm so fascinated with the idea of makeup. I keep it simple, with only mascara, concealer, blush and, 90% of the time, aquaphor for the lips. I have soooo much hair, it's long and naturally curly, that it's too much of a task. Which is why I do not like doing it.
5. I have 2 sisters (3 if we are counting my best friend) and 1 brother. Both sister's are older, 1 is my half sister and the other is 11 months older than me. I have 3 handsome nephews from my sister's.

There you have it guys! Now you know just a little more about the girl behind MN blog. Hope your week is going swell. What's going on with your weekend plans? Anything exciting to look forward too? Tomorrow is Friday! Have questions, leave a comment. Until next time loves....

It's a Keeper

I mentioned on yesterdays post one thing about me is that I am always cold. So, it is completely necessary for me to start gearing up for the cooler weather ahead. Not to mention we are headed out for a camping trip in the northeast part of Texas. Isn't it always a little cooler further North? I am going to go ahead and assume that it is. I picked up this sweater and another jacket the other day. And if the suspense isn't killing you, well, it's killing me. You won't believe this, but I got this adorable Ellen Tracy sweater at Costco. Who knew they had such adorable clothes. Actually affordable is more like it. This sweater was $16.99. The other jacket I got was also $16.99! I was totally shocked when I found them, I guess I've never browsed their clothes selection before. I feel like I have, it's a probably hit or miss, but i'll definitely be looking more consistently from now on. I will also be returning for some cute plaid knit cardigans I spotted while there the other day.  I need all I can to keep me warm. Now that the secret is out, the sweater comes in 2 additional colors. Plus, some bonus info, there was a Calvin Klein crew neck sweater next to the Ellen Tracy sweaters, that were too cute. And that particular sweater had several color options. This excites me. I never thought I wouldn't have to leave my own neighborhood to physically go shopping. I may be being slightly dramatic, but you have to call a good deal when you see one. I'm telling you, there's some good deals going on at Costco. I'll most likely get a good decade out of this sweater.  The color is called Fawn, to some it would be Camel, a classic, timeless color. If your looking for a keeper, go check out Costco guys. Until next time...
